The timing of transitions into adulthood has critical implications for early adulthood development, yet few research studies on this topic exist, particularly involving rural youth. We utilized a nationwide sample of geographically diverse rural youth from 34 rural locations in the United States to investigate adolescents' expected transitions into adulthood. The vast majority of rural men and women planned to get married and become parents, however, women expected earlier transition times into adulthood. Results also indicated a number of individual, family, and community variables related to the expectation of marriage and parenthood and the expected timing of marriage and parenthood. Notably, we found that whereas women were generally more likely than men to plan to get married and become a parent, this observed gender gap decreased as educational aspirations increased.

backgroundThe research on values constitutes an essential part of social research. These studies usually use an approach associated with the lists of values and their evaluations on scales, ranging or comparative. This approach is problematic, particularly in the situation of youth who are often characterized by low reflectiveness. One of the ways to achieve the value is to conduct research on practical plans. participants and procedureThe study involved 218 pupils from three lower secondary schools from the Greater Poland region. We used the card description of practical plans ("Timeline"), in which pupils described their intentions within perspectives ranging 5, 10, 15 and 20 years. The study was carried out during lessons, conducted by teachers. However, rather than the cognitive goal, the more essential aim was to estimate the usefulness of research tool. resultsThe presented data serves only to illustrate the possibilities of the tested research tool. The obtained descriptions identified a low crystallization of practical plans. In the context of values it is necessary to refer to the dominance of a materialistic and pragmatic approach, a family remains essential as a value, but self-fulfillment does not. conclusionsThe study was primarily conducted to check whether the analysis of practical plans will be useful approach to examine values important for youth. In the study, issues of standardizing the research situation proved to be relevant -hence there was a demand to use the lesson script.

RESUMOO objetivo deste trabalho é entender o papel da família na trajetória profissional das mulheres executivas brasileiras que chegaram aos primeiros escalões das grandes empresas operando no Brasil e das mulheres empreendedoras. Destaca-se a quase ausência de estudos no campo da administração no Brasil que investigam a possível relação entre o sucesso profissional e a influência da família, principalmente no caso de mulheres executivas. Trata-se de uma pesquisa qualitativa exploratória; dois estudos de caso comparativos com entrevistas semiestruturadas com 25 empreendedoras e 47 executivas (presidentes, diretoras e superintendentes) com idades de 30 a 70 anos. Adotou-se a análise de conteúdo. Enquanto as mães das executivas influenciaram no sucesso profissional devido à importância que deram aos estudos, as mães das empreendedoras influenciaram não apenas pelo enfoque nos estudos, mas também pela experiência empreendedora repassada de uma geração para outra.Palavras-chave: Importância dos estudos na trajetória profissional da mulher. ABSTRACTThis article aims to understand the role of the family in the professional lives of Brazilian female executives who have reached the top levels of management in large companies operating in Brazil, and female entrepreneurs. There are practically no studies in the field of management in Brazil that investigate the possible relationship between professional success and the influence of parents, especially among top executives. This is a qualitative, exploratory study consisting of two comparative case studies, with semi-structured interviews with 25 women entrepreneurs and forty-seven top women executives (CEOs, directors, and superintendents) aged between 30 and 70 years. For the analysis of the data, we used content analysis. We found that while the mothers of the women executives had influenced their success by stressing the importance of studying hard, the mothers of the women entrepreneurs had influenced their careers not only by enforcing to studying, but also through the entrepreneurial experience passed from one generation to the next.Keywords: Importance of education in women's professional lives.
