Anticancer Activity and Nutritional Value of Extracts of the Seed of Glinus lotoides

Abstract: SummaryThe purpose of this study is to determine the anticancer activity and the nutritional values of the seeds of Glinus lotoides , a plant used as a dietary vegetable and medicinal plant in Asia and Africa. To achieve this goal, the seeds were extracted in soxhlet using solvents, namely n -hexane, dichloromethane, methanol and water. The methanol and n -hexane extracts showed differential growth inhibitory responses in carcinoma cell lines (Calu-3 IC 50 ϭ 29.7 and 79.8 g/mL and Caco-2 IC 50 ϭ 69.7 and 74.6 … Show more

“…The seed extracts of Glinus lotoides (n-hexane, chloroform, methanol, and water) were tested for anticancer activity on the lung cancer cell line (Calu-3) using MTT assay. The result showed that methanol extract exhibits the highest anticancer activity with an IC 50 value of 29.7 ± 1.3 μ g/mL, while water extracts (IC 50 = 262.2 ± 1.2 μ g/mL) exhibit the least anticancer activity [ 78 ].…”
