Antibiotics for Bull Semen Frozen in Milk and Egg Yolk Extenders

Show more

“…It was previous reported that GM has deterioration of sperm motion, sperm count and sperm morphology, which were responsible for its adverse effects on male fertility (Ahmad et al ., ; Segovia et al ., ; Khaki et al ., ; Narayana, ). In the present study, although there were no obvious differences in the incidence of abnormal spermatozoon among the groups, GM treatment significantly decreased sperm count and sperm motility in the epididymis.…”

“…GM is one of the most widely used aminoglycoside antibiotics known to disturb spermatogenesis and sperm function (Ahmad et al ., ; Timmermans, ; Segovia et al ., ; Khaki et al ., ; Narayana, ). Therefore, a strategy to diminish the side effects of antibiotics while preserving their therapeutic efficacy is needed.…”

“…In farm animals’ AI, including boars, streptomycin and penicillin are the most widely used antibiotics [ 41 ]. Additionally, antibiotics, like gentamicin, linco-spectin and clindamycin have been successfully implemented in different semen extenders [ 42 , 43 ]. During the last decades, the bacterial resistance to antibiotics has been a serious problem to humans’ as well as animals’ health.…”

“…Fifteen days after the therapy, the cholesterol and ascorbic acid levels recovered to the normal levels, whereas the dehydrogenase enzymes showed a considerable increase, and the authors concluded that GS affected the synthesis of testosterone (Ghosh and Dasgupta, 1999). GS also affected the sperm viability and function (Segovia et al, 2000), and inhibited the fertilizing ability and motility of spermatozoa (Ahmad et al, 1987). However, there are no studies reporting the effects of GS on oxidative stress, antioxidant levels, testicular structure and the evaluation of effects on sperm parameters are inadequate, in view of this, the present study was designed to investigate these effects of GS in the rat.…”
