Antibacterial and antifungal studies of macrocyclic complexes of trivalent transition metal ions with their spectroscopic approach

Anthracenylamine and naphthylamine were reacted with 1, 3-cyclohexadienone and 1, 4-benzoquinone in order to prepare four (1, 2, 3 & 4) conjugated Schiff bases for the evaluation of their antibacterial as well as antifungal activities. The compounds which contains imine group (-CH=N) are identified as Schiff bases 1. Schiff bases can be synthesized by condensing compounds containing carbonyl and amine groups. These Schiff bases participate in variety of reactions to elucidate various types of mechanisms and also perform excellent role in different biological systems 2. Aldehydic Schiff bases of aromatic system have an effective conjugation character and form stable compounds than aliphatic one. Condensation reactions of ketones and carbonyl bearing compounds also form Schiff bases which also imparts significant responsibility to detect different groups i.e. amines and carbonyls during different reactions 3. Other applications of these Schiff bases include analysis and characterization of ketones and aldehydes. Stable complexes are formed by transition metals with the Schiff bases 4-9. Chelation of metal ions with Schiff bases ligands are used in the preparation of complexes. Novel MCR Synthesis of Post Transition Metal Complexes with Substituted Hydroxy Quinolines as Potent Antimicrobial Agent

Metal complexes with substituted quinolines especially copper, zinc and nickel complexes significantly reduce the decay of wood, cellulose and hemi cellulose, caused by fungi and used for wood preservative 1. A process for treating such materials with these copper-containing antifungal agents is also disclosed. Copper(II)-complexes have octahedral, square pyramid and square planar geometries. They also reflect the strong coordinating ability for NO 3-, Cl-, Br-, AcOand SO 4 2-, depending on the type of the anions. The zinc complexes of selected amino acids like proline, lysine, histidine, glycine and arginine can be used for inhibition of growth for the malarial parasite i.e., Plasmodium falciparum. Zinc(II) complex has been shown to exhibit antimicrobial activity and ameliorate hyper insulinemia and massive hereditary obesity in mice. In addition to structural activity relationships of zinc complexes improved hyperglycemia and insulin resistance in diabetic mice. Zinc(II) complex actually triggered the development of new zinc complexes with anti-metabolic syndrome activity. Nickel occurs in various oxidation states and find wide applications in number of synthetic and biological mechanisms.
