RESUMORealizou-se este trabalho com o objetivo de avaliar o crescimento, desenvolvimento e a produção de flores de Tropaeolum majus L., em função do uso de cama de frango e de resíduo orgânico misto, associados ou não ao nitrogênio. O trabalho foi desenvolvido no Horto de Plantas Medicinais -HPM, da Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul UFMS, em Dourados MS, no período de maio a outubro de 2002. Os tratamentos em estudo foram testemunha (solo normal) -T, nitrogênio (60 kg.ha -1 N, na forma de sulfato de amônio) -N, cama (15000 kg ha -1 de cama de frango semidecomposta) -CF, cama mais nitrogênio -CFN, resíduo misto (15000 kg ha -1 ) RM e resíduo misto mais nitrogênio -RMN, dispostos no delineamento experimental de blocos casualizados, com quatro repetições. As características avaliadas foram: altura das plantas, biomassa fresca e seca da parte aérea sem flores, biomassa fresca e seca das flores, número de flores, diâmetro e altura das flores, teor de N e P nas folhas e flores. A maior altura da planta foi de 36,33 cm no tratamento CF. As plantas do tratamento CFN apresentaram as maiores produções de biomassa fresca (52195,69 kg.ha -1 ) e seca (6281,14 kg ha -1 ) de parte aérea sem flores, e de biomassa fresca (3150,97 kg.ha -1 ), seca (232,17 kg ha -1 ) e de número de flores (50,49 milhões ha -1 ). Os diâmetros e os comprimentos das flores não variaram com os tratamentos utilizados. Os teores médios de N (33,0 e 32,0 g kg -1 ) e de P (1,9 e 3,3 g kg -1 ) nas folhas e nas flores, respectivamente, estiveram dentro daqueles citados para a espécie. ABSTRACTThe objective of this work was to evaluate growth, development and yield of Trapaeolum majus L. flowers as a function of the use of chicken manure and mixed organic residue associated or not with Nitrogen. The work was carried out at Medicinal Plant Garden HPM of the Federal University of Mato Grosso do Sul UFMS, in Dourados MS, from May to October, 2002. Studied treatments were control (normal soil) -T, nitrogen (60 kg.ha -1 of N, in ammonia sulfate form) -N, chicken manure (15000 kg ha -1 of semi-decomposed chicken manure) -CF, chicken manure associated with nitrogen -CFN, mixed residue (15000 kg ha -1 ) RM and mixed residue associated with nitrogen -RMN, which were established in a randomized experimental design with four replications. Evaluated characteristics were plant height, dried and fresh matter of aerial part without flowers, fresh and dried matter of flowers, flower diameter and height, N and P content in leaves and flowers. The highest plant height was of 36.33 cm in CF treatment. Characterization of Two Novel Type I Ribosome-Inactivating Proteins from the Storage Roots of the Andean CropMirabilis expansa1

Two novel type I ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) were found in the storage roots of Mirabilis expansa, an underutilized Andean root crop. The two RIPs, named ME1 and ME2, were purified to homogeneity by ammonium sulfate precipitation, cationexchange perfusion chromatography, and C 4 reverse-phase chromatography. The two proteins were found to be similar in size (27 and 27.5 kD) by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, and their isoelectric points were determined to be greater than pH 10.0. Amino acid N-terminal sequencing revealed that both ME1 and ME2 had conserved residues characteristic of RIPs. Amino acid composition and western-blot analysis further suggested a structural similarity between ME1 and ME2. ME2 showed high similarity to the Mirabilis jalapa antiviral protein, a type I RIP. Depurination of yeast 26S rRNA by ME1 and ME2 demonstrated their ribosome-inactivating activity. Because these two proteins were isolated from roots, their antimicrobial activity was tested against root-rot microorganisms, among others. ME1 and ME2 were active against several fungi, including Pythium irregulare, Fusarium oxysporum solani, Alternaria solani, Trichoderma reesei, and Trichoderma harzianum, and an additive antifungal effect of ME1 and ME2 was observed. Antibacterial activity of both ME1 and ME2 was observed against Pseudomonas syringae, Agrobacterium tumefaciens, Agrobacterium radiobacter, and others.

Umuarama, v. 20, n. 3, p, 195-198, set./dez. 2016. RESUMO:O uso popular de plantas é uma arte muito antiga fundamentada no acúmulo de informações repassadas por meio de sucessivas gerações. A etnobotânica e a etnofarmacologia são considerados ferramentas importantes no resgate de saberes tradicionais das sociedades humanas, passadas e presentes, e suas interações com as plantas e a geração de conhecimento científico e tecnológico voltados para o uso sustentável dos recursos naturais, e estão diretamente ligados com o mercado fitoterápico. A Tropaeolum majus L. conhecida popularmente como capuchinha, chaguinha ou nastúrcio pertence à família Tropaeolaceae é uma espécie amplamente cultivada no Brasil, tanto para fins ornamentais, medicinais e alimentícios. A Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (EMBRAPA) orienta e recomenda o cultivo desta espécie para fins alimentares e medicinais. Diante dessa realidade, inúmeros estudos foram realizados com essa espécie no intuito de comprovar sua eficácia, segurança e qualidade. A partir do levantamento bibliográfico sobre a etnobotânica, etnofarmacologia, farmacologia e toxicologia da espécie em questão, observou-se que existem vários trabalhos publicados que justificam a utilização desta espécie, tanto no uso medicinal quanto alimentício, podendo-se lançar no mercado de produtos naturais um novo fitoterápico promissor, cujos estudos encontram-se bem definidos e justificados. SURVEY OF ETHNOBOTANICAL, ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL AND PHARMACOLOGICAL INFORMATION RECORDED IN LITERATURE ON Tropaeolum majus L. (GARDEN NASTURTIUM)ABSTRACT: The popular use of plants is an ancient art based on the accumulation of information passed on through successive generations. Ethnobotany and Ethnopharmacology are considered important tools in the recovery of traditional human society knowledge, both past and present, their interactions with plants and the generation of scientific and technological knowledge for sustainable use of natural resources, directly linked with the herbal medicine market. The Tropaeolum majus L. (popularly known as garden nasturtium, Indian cress or monks cress) belongs to the Tropaeolaceae family, and is widely cultivated in Brazil, for ornamental, medicinal and food purposes. The Brazilian Agricultural Research Corporation (EMBRAPA) provides guidance and recommendation on the cultivation of this species for food and medicinal purposes. Thus, many studies have been carried out with this species in order to prove its efficacy, safety and quality. From the literature on ethnobotany, ethnopharmacology, pharmacology and toxicology of the studied species, it could be observed that there are several published works justifying the use of this species, both for its medical and food use, thus allowing the launching of natural products on the market with a promising new herbal medicine, with well-defined and justified studies.
