Castor seed oil (Ricinus communis) is a prominent feed stock towards the generation of renewable materials for industrial production. The reach presence of ricinoleic fatty acid at 87.5% provides pendant hydroxyl functional groups, which is an essential site for chemical formulations. This paper presents the synthesis, characterization, and evaluations on antibacterial and anticorrosive activities of synthesized hybrid composites from Ricinus communis seed oil. N,N'-bis(2-hydroxy ethyl)-12-hydroxy Ricinus communis oil fatty amide (HERCA) was synthesized via aminolysis polyol formation route. Upon reacting HERCA with succinic acid at a high temperature of about 145 ºC, a polyesteramide (RCPEA) was formed. This ester product undergoes urethanation and subsequently interfaced with modified hybrid material. The synthesized composites were characterized using spectroscopic methods such as FT-IR, 1 H-NMR, and 13 C-NMR. Selected physicochemical parameters were also carried out on the products. Coating performance on cured resins was examined.

Seed oil based polyurethane resins were synthesized from underutilized plant seedlings of Thevetia peruviana (yellow oleanda). The seed oil was converted to partial glycerides (PG) polyol using calcium oxide as catalyst. The polyol was treated with varying ratios of isophorone diisocyanate (IPDI) in order to synthesize partial glyceride urethanes (PGU) films. The PG intermediate and PGU products were characterized using FT-IR, 1 H-NMR and 13 C-NMR. Physico-chemical parameters like acid value, hydroxyl value, viscosity and refractive index were also examined. Corrosion stability of coated panels was studied in the salt spray chamber. Thermal stability and antimicrobial study of the films were also evaluated.

Polymeric researchers are trying to use renewable resources for polymeric resins in the coating industry to reduce fossil or petroleum feedstock reliance significantly. The present research attempts to develop a polyurethane (PU) coating for the first time from Niger seed oil (NSO). The polyesteramide polyols are synthesized by amidation of Niger seed oil with diethanolamine and further esterification with different biobased dicarboxylic acids (phthalic, itaconic, and dimer) to introduce a required functionality of hydroxyl group. Spectroscopic studies of Niger‐seed‐oil‐based fatty diethanolamide and polyesteramide polyols are carried out by Fourier‐transform infrared spectroscopy and proton nuclear magnetic resonance. The polyurethane coatings are prepared from synthesized polyesteramide polyols and hexamethylene diisocyanate biuret (HDI‐B). The cross‐link density of PU coatings demonstrated by gel content method and the corrosion study is carried by salt water immersion technique. The PU coatings are also studied for glass transition temperature (Tg) and thermal stability by differential scanning calorimetry and thermogravimetric analysis. Practical Applications: The long aliphatic chain provides flexibility, whereas the rigid structure of polyols enhances the hardness of PU coating. The phthalic‐based PU metal coatings depict excellent hardness, gloss, hydrophobicity, and chemical resistance compared to itaconic and dimer‐acid‐based PU.
