Anti‐Inflammatory Effects of the Chinese Herbal Formula Sini Tang in Myocardial Infarction Rats

Abstract: The aim of this study was to evaluate the anti-inflammatory profiling of the Chinese herbal formula Sini Tang (SNT) in myocardial infarction (MI) rats. SNT, a decoction consisting of four herbs: Aconitum carmichaelii, Cinnamomum cassia, Zingiber officinale, and Glycyrrhiza uralensis, was characterized as a remedy to treat syndromes corresponding to heart failure and MI in China. Potential biomarkers, which reflect the extent of myocardial necrosis and correlate with cardiac outcomes following MI, such as atria… Show more

“…With the development of Chinese traditional medicine modernization, the pharmacological mechanisms of Chinese medicine formula containing licorice were also investigated. The Chinese herbal formula Sini Tang decreased the expression of atrial natriuretic peptide levels in plasma and increased the vascular active marker nitric oxide (NO), which limited vascular inflammation (Liu et al 2014). Shaoyaogancao decoction suppressed clozapine metabolism in human liver microsomal system principally associated with the inhibition of related CYP activity (Wang et al 2015).…”

“…Currently available synthetic cardioprotective medicines have not only been related to a number of side effects but are also very costly [ 5 ]. The easy availability, comparatively less side effects, and low cost of medicinal plants make them more attractive therapeutic agents [ 6 ].…”

“…SNT has been shown to improve the symptoms of various intestinal diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease ( Pei et al, 2015 ), diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome ( Chu, 2016 ; Xi and Wu, 2018 ), constipation ( Zhu, 2016 ), intestinal mucosal injury ( Kexuan et al, 2016 ), and postoperative intestinal adhesion ( Hou, 2004 ). Additionally, SNT has been shown to reduce the levels of C-reactive protein (CRP), tumor necrosis factor (TNF)- α , interleukin (IL)-6, and IL-1 ( Zeng et al, 2009 ; Liu et al, 2014 ; Cheng et al, 2017 ). Although some effort has been made to understand the mechanisms of SNT, there remains a need to precisely investigate its efficacy and mechanisms.…”
