Anti-Inflammatory Effect of Peel Extracts from Citrus Fruits

Abstract: The following study was presented to investigate the anti-inflammatory effect of peel extracts (PE) from three citrus fruits: Citrus unshiu, Citrus limonia Osbeck and Citrus hallabong. According to this study, cytotoxicity, NO-production and protein levels of iNOS (inducible nitric oxide synthase) in macrophage cell were analyzed, which had been incubated in murine macrophage cell line RAW 264.7 cell of PE from those three citrus fruits. According to Citrus unshiu peel extracts (CUP), Citrus limonia Osbeck pee… Show more

“…Although previous limited findings have revealed that Hallabong peel extracts show antiinflammatory effects in RAW 264.7 macrophage cells (Lee et al 2013), the topical application of Hallabong fruit extracts has been rarely investigated as an anti-inflammatory mediator. Here, we investigated the potent inhibitory effect of topically applied HE on TPA-produced mouse ear oedema model and anti-inflammatory effect of HE on splenocytes.…”

“…Dried peel of Citrus unshiu Markov has been traditionally used as a popular herbal ingredient for treatment of various digestive dysfunctions, including abdominal distension, nausea, vomiting, and dyspepsia in East Asia such as Korea and Japan [ 14 ]. Based on its excellent properties and safe use, this herb has been commonly used for a long time in food or medicine preparation which was registered and managed as policy documents of Korea Food and Drug Administration [ 15 , 16 ]. The dried peel of Citrus unshiu , like other citrus species, has been experimentally proven to be able to ameliorate hyperglycemia through inhibition of hepatic gluconeogenic enzyme and induction of insulin/glucagon secretion.…”
