Anti-inflammatory effect of Allium hookeri on carrageenan-induced air pouch mouse model

Abstract: Inflammation is a commonly observed immune reaction, and rheumatoid arthritis is a particularly severe inflammatory disease. In this study, we used an air pouch mouse model to evaluate the anti-inflammatory potential of Allium hookeri, which has both been used as a culinary material and a traditional medicine in south-eastern Asia for many years. Allium hookeri suppressed typical symptoms of inflammation, such as condensation of the air pouch membrane, and inhibited the expression of several inducible proinfla… Show more

“…Curcuma longa (C. longa), a member of the Zingiberaceae family, has several biological effects such as anti-inflammation, hyperlipidemia inhibition, and gastroprotection [9][10][11][12] . Our group has also worked to develop safe anti-inflammatory drugs from natural products [13][14][15] . Previously, we reported the anti-inflammatory effect of A. hookeri but were unable to elucidate the exact mechanism of action involved in the effect 14 .…”

“…Many health functional foods and the active constituents contained in these foods have been revealed an anti‐inflammatory activity (Yi, ). A large number of mechanistic researches have nicely verified that these functional foods have the anti‐allergic inflammatory activities by reducing the levels of inflammatory mediators, such as TSLP, TNF, IL‐1β, IL‐6, and IL‐8 and suppressing the inflammatory signaling pathways, such as caspase‐1, NF‐κB, and MAPKs (Jeong et al, ; Kim et al, ). Therefore, much attention has been focused on the health functional foods to exhibit anti‐allergic inflammatory effect to alleviate allergic inflammatory condition and to treat and prevent inflammatory disorders.…”
