“…Recently, Siani et al . 42 reported that effective inhibition of eosinophil migration by essential oils from Syzygium cumini Skells and Psidium guajava L. correlated with the presence of β-pinene. Because α-pinene was completely inactive in all of our test-systems (Table 3), we suggest that human neutrophils can discriminate between α- and β- isomers of this bicyclic monoterpene.…”

“…Another explanation beside the reduced toxicity due to a reduction of unknown toxic combustion products, might be the antioxidant and radical-scavenging activity of eugenol (Atsumi et al, 2001;Fujisawa et al, 2000Fujisawa et al, , 2002Kadoma et al, 2007). Other components of the oleoresins, especially b-caryophyllene, exhibit the same chemical properties to a significant extent (Chang et al, 2013;Siani et al, 2013).…”

“…59 In another study, essential oils from the Jamun leaf inhibited the migration of rat eosinophils, indicating that Jamun leaf possesses anti-inflammatory activity. 60 The aqueous leaf extract has also been reported to reduce indomethacin-induced inflammatory changes in the mice by reducing nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) and cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes. 45 The essential oils from Jamun leaf have been reported to alleviate chronic granulomatous inflammation in BALB/c mice that had been intravenously infected with Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmettte-Guerin.…”
