Anti-fibrotic Role of miR-214 in Thioacetamide-induced Liver Cirrhosis in Rats

Abstract: An increasing number of studies have focused on the role of microRNAs in liver fibrosis/cirrhosis. miR-214 has recently attracted more attention as a fibrosis-related factor; however, the molecular mechanisms in hepatic fibrogenesis remain largely unknown. Here, we investigate the pathological role of miR-214 during progression of liver cirrhosis in rats. Rats were injected intraperitoneally with thioacetamide at a dose of 100 mg/kg body weight, twice a week. The liver was collected at post first injection wee… Show more

“…Therefore, our data have demonstrated the anti-fibrotic effect of miR-214-3p, instead of a pro-fibrotic effect, in cardiac fibrosis. This conclusion has been supported by previous studies showing the protective effect of miR-214 by inhibition of fibrosis [16, 19, 27]. …”

“…miRNA-214 can also inhibit bladder cancer growth by targeting PDRG1 gene (42). Moreover, Wan et al (43) report that miR-214 has a protective role in the post treatment for myocardial ischemia, and Izawa et al (44) discover that miR-214 effectively alleviates thioacetamide-induced cirrhosis and may have an anti-fibrotic effect. In the present study, we find that expression of miR-214 is reduced in both mononuclear cells from IM-resistant CML patients and K562R cells.…”

“…miR‐21 has been comprehensively described in fibrosis because of its target relevance and important role in the modulation of the TGF‐β1 signalling pathway, related to the pathogenesis and progression of fibrosis in various organs . The association between miR‐21 and pulmonary, renal and cardiac fibrosis has been confirmed ; however, it is unclear whether miR‐21 plays a part in EndMT and perivascular fibrosis in the heart in T1DM. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the role and the mode of miR‐21 in regulating EndMT and cardiac perivascular fibrosis and to observe the influence of miR‐21 inhibition on the heart of diabetic cardiomyopathy.…”
