Antarcticibacterium flavum gen. nov., sp. nov., isolated from marine sediment

Abstract: A Gram-stain-negative, strictly aerobic, yellow-pigmented, non-gliding, oval to rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated JB01H24, belonging to the family Flavobacteriaceae, was isolated from marine surface sediment collected from the Ross Sea, Antarctica. Strain JB01H24 grew at 4-40 °C (optimum 25-30 °C), pH 7.0-9.0 (optimum 7.5-8.0), and in the presence of 0-8 % NaCl (optimum 3 %, w/v). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that strain JB01H24 formed an independent linkage within the fa… Show more

“…In the present study, spread-plate method was used as parallel complement of culture-independent approach and yielded 629 isolates, which would be helpful to perform more metabolic, physiological and ecological tests in future. Our previous studies have phenotypically, phylogenetically and chemotaxonomically characterized five novel type strains out of the 629 isolates (Li et al, 2017a,b, 2018a,b,c).…”

“…Two gram of each sediment stored at 4°C was measured out with a stainless steel spoon and subsequently resuspended in 20 mL sterile seawater. The suspension were serially diluted and spread on Marine Agar 2216 (MA, BD Difco, MD, USA), MC (Li et al, 2017a,b, 2018a,b,c) and LC (1/100 MC) plates. The suspension plating process was performed in parallel to generate two analogous groups of plates, which were incubated at 4°C for 30 days and at 25°C for 7 days, respectively.…”

“…Members of the family occur in marine environments [3, 4]. Most novel genera within this family described recently were isolated from marine environments [5–11]. In this study, we report the characterization of a novel species in a novel genus within the family Flavobacteriaceae isolated from a deep-sea seamount.…”

“…Cell motility was examined according to the hanging-drop method [38]. Growth tests under different pH, temperatures and NaCl concentrations were performed as described previously [39]. Other phenotypic characteristics such as enzyme activities, acid production by fermentation and utilization of carbon sources were determined using API ZYM, 20E and 20NE kits (bioMérieux) and Biolog GEN III MicroPlates (Biolog), following the manufacturers’ instructions.…”
