Antagonistic effects of abscisic acid and jasmonates on salt stress-inducible transcripts in rice roots.

Abstract: Abscisic acid (ABA) and jasmonates have been implicated in responses t o water deficit and wounding. We compared the molecular and physiological effects of jasmonic acid (JA) (510 pM), ABA, and salt stress in roots of rice. JA markedly induced a cationic peroxidase, two nove1 32-and 28-kD proteins, acidic PR-1 and PR-10 pathogenesis-related proteins, and the salt stress-responsive SalT protein in roots. Most JA-responsive proteins (JIPs) from roots also accumulated when plants were subjected t o salt stress. N… Show more

“…It has been reported that salt and ABA stress responsive cis element have role under these stress and are present in PsSEOF1 promoter. 20 The transient GUS expression analysis of PsSEOF1 in this study is consistent with the qRT-PCR analysis of PsSEOF1 gene under salt, cold, MeJA, ABA treatments (data not shown).…”

“…Dehydration-responsive element MYC sequence found in rd22 gene were found in the promoters in Arabidopsis. 20 The PsSEOF1 promoter identified here can be a applicable for genetic engineering for biotic/abiotic stress to confer tolerance for plants Our result has identified the sequence element similar to other phloem specific promoters which includes GATA motif BoxII, ASL box elements for tissue specificity. Earlier reports suggest that mutation in ASL box, GATA motif mutation significantly reduced promoter activity and also affected EMSA result.…”

“…Razegui was also observed following drought stress (data not shown). Previously, Moon et al (2003) reported that salt stress could induce PR10 gene expression in roots of rice at 150 mM NaCl. In this study, when grape plants were subjected to short-term salt stress, an increase in protein and PR10 mRNA expression levels were detected in roots of grape cv.…”

“…This gene also maps to the Saltol region (14.26 Mb) on chromosome 1. The salT gene in rice is responsive to salt stress and the phytohormones abscisic acid and jasmonic acid (JA) (Claes et al 1990; Moons et al 1997). We found some genes involved in JA biosynthesis, and JA responsive genes, to be induced by salinity stress in IR29 during reproductive stage but not during vegetative stage.…”
