ANRIL: a pivotal tumor suppressor long non-coding RNA in human cancers

Abstract: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are a family of non-protein-coding RNAs with length more than 200 nucleotides. LncRNAs played important roles in many biological processes such as cell development, proliferation, invasion and migration. Deregulation of LncRNAs was found in multiple tumors where they can act as a tumor suppressor gene or oncogene. LncRNA ANRIL was identified as an oncogene involved in a number of tumors such as gastric cancer, lung cancer, hepatocellular carcinoma, and esophageal squamous cell ca… Show more

“…LncRNA ANRIL was recognized as an oncogene that was involved in a variety of diseases; however, its inhibition was proved to suppress cell proliferation, migration and invasion [8]. Activation of NF-κB, a family of transcription factors, has been revealed to take control of multiple cellular processes in diseases including inflammation, proliferation, angiogenesis, etc.…”

“…Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA), identified as non-protein-coding RNAs which have long length with over 200 nucleotides, involves in many biological actions including cell growth and proliferation and so on [8]. Antisense non-coding RNA in the INK4 locus (ANRIL), belonging to the lncRNA family, widely exits in various human cancers, and also is regarded as a dangerous existence in breast cancer, gliomas and other several cancers proved by increasing studies [9].…”

“…Three well-annotated lncRNAs (H19, HOTAIR and ANRIL) from lncRNADisease database were used as known OSCC-related seed lncRNAs. These three lncRNAs are associated with prognosis of OSCC and other cancers [6264]. Subsequently, we examined whether the top lncRNAs prioritized by DisLncPri were related with OSCC patient prognosis.…”

“…It is located on chromosome 9q21.3 (Table 1), is transcriptionally silenced or homozygously deleted in several human tumor types [70, 71], and is dysregulated in a number of malignancies such as breast [72], gastric [73], lung, cervical [74] and bladder cancers [75]. …”
