Annular-ring slot antenna designs with circular polarization radiation

Abstract: The design of a microstrip‐fed annular‐ring slot antenna (ARSA) with circular polarization (CP) radiation is initially studied. To obtain CP radiation with broad 3‐dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth that can cover the WiMAX 2.3 GHz (2305–2320 MHz, 2345–2360 MHz) and WLAN 2.4 GHz (2400–2480 MHz) bands, a novel technique of extending an inverted L‐shaped slot from the bottom section of the annular‐ring is proposed. To suppress the harmonic modes induced by the CP ARSA, the technique of integrating a defected ground s… Show more

“…For planar applications, different models of microstrip antenna have been suggested and because of its special characteristics, such as higher gain, wider bandwidth, and bidirectional pattern, microstrip slot antennas have noticed more attention than patch antennas . Moreover, the compact size of slot antennas has been considered for UWB applications .…”

“…It is well known that circularly polarized (CP) radiation can mitigate the polarization mismatch, eliminate the Faraday rotation when signals travel through the ionosphere, and offer great flexibility in the orientation of a transmitter and a receiver. Consequently, owing to these features, CP antennas have been widely employed for many applications in satellite communication, global positioning and navigation system, radio frequency identification systems (RFID), and wireless local area networks …”

“…, which bandwidth has been enhanced. A novel technique of extending an inverted L‐shaped slot from the bottom section of the annular‐ring is proposed to obtain CP radiation with broad bandwidth . By properly combining the slot mode and extra resonance generated by the AMC surface, the metasurface‐based low‐profile crossed dipole antenna has achieved a wideband circularly polarized operation .…”
