Annealing Effect of Sol-Gel TiO2 Thin Film on pH-EGFET Sensor

Abstract: In this study, a sol-gel titanium dioxide (TiO 2 ) was spin-coated on indium tin oxide (ITO) substrate as a sensing membrane for the extended-gate field-effect transistor (EGFET). To improve its sensing properties, the resultant films were thermal annealed at various temperatures. It shows that, as TiO 2 was post-annealed at T a =200 o C for 30 min, a highest pH sensitivity of 79.9 ȝA/pH was derived. As T a > 500 o C, the pH sensitivity was declined substantial to 70.1 ȝA/pH. The sensitivity would further dete… Show more

“…Oxides such as TiO 2 2 , SnO 2 3 and ZnO 1 can be used as sensing part in these devices. The biocompatibility of these materials has already been demonstrated by other research groups [4][5][6][7][8] , and they have been used as part of various types of biosensors.…”

“…As reported by Fang et al, the decrease in thickness of ZnO thin film is affected by annealing temperature due to there were more energy supplied for the atom to diffuse and occupy the correct site [18]. Other than that, phase transition during annealing process also may attribute to the thickness changes of the thin films [19].…”

“…Sensitivity is defined as the slope of the output characteristic curve or, more generally, the minimum input of the value of V out and sensitivity of the thin film physical parameter that will create a detectable output change [13]. Fig.1 shows the sensitivity characteristics of the bilayer films respectively.…”
