Anion-Exchange Displacement Centrifugal Partition Chromatography

Abstract: Ion-exchange displacement chromatography has been adapted to centrifugal partition chromatography. The use of an ionic liquid, benzalkonium chloride, as a strong anion-exchanger has proven to be efficient for the preparative separation of phenolic acid regioisomers. Multigram quantities of a mixture of three hydroxycinnamic acid isomers were separated using iodide as a displacer. The displacement process was characterized by a trapezoidal profile of analyte concentration in the eluate with narrow transition zo… Show more

“…As the concentration of the effluent is driven by the concentration of the displacer, an increase in the sample mass causes a lengthening of the elution time for each component of the mixture, without affecting the transition zones. This observation is clearly supported by computer simulation [8,14] (http://helios.univ-reims.fr/Labos/UPRESA6013/LSD/ JmnSoft/CpcSim/index.html). Therefore, the aim of this work was to set up a pilot-scale isolation of sinalbin from an aqueous white mustard seeds extract, using a 5 L capacity CPC apparatus, and to prove that SIXCPC is a high performance separation technique on an industrial scale.…”

“…Strong ion-exchange is a specific displacement chromatography mode that was introduced in SIXCPC to purify ionizable molecules such as hydroxycinnamic acids [8], rosmarinic acid [11], or GSLs [10]. Even though the stationary phase in CPC is a liquid, SIXCPC is quite similar to ion-exchange chromatography on solid resins.…”
