Decision support systems (DSSs) enable the optimisation of pesticide application timing to increase pesticide efficacy and thus reduce pesticide use without compromising yield quality and quantity. Limited access to information about available DSSs for use in integrated pest management (IPM) is a major barrier to the uptake of DSSs for IPM across Europe. To overcome this barrier, a typology for DSSs for IPM in Europe was developed, introducing a systematic approach to describe the ever-growing number of DSSs for IPM. The developed IPM-DSS typology was implemented in the free web tool “IPM Adviser”, where currently 79 IPM DSSs are described with over 50 attributes describing their structural and performance characteristics. The information about IPM DSSs, which was previously scattered on different websites and difficult to compare, is now standardised and presented in a uniform way, so that it is possible to compare different IPM DSSs on the basis of all the attributes described. The presented IPM-DSS typology implemented in the web tool IPM Adviser facilitates the dissemination and uptake of DSSs for IPM and thus contributes to the achievement of the EU targets for the sustainable use of pesticides.

Blockchain-Based Peer-to-Peer Energy Trading System Using Open-Source Angular Framework and Hypertext Transfer Protocol

Renewable energy resources have been gaining ground in recent years and we are on the verge of a decentralized energy market with consumers becoming prosumers. Platforms that facilitate peer-to-peer (P2P) sale or purchase of energy are therefore essential. This paper presents a way to trade energy across P2P networks using blockchain technology. The main server is a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B (Pi4B), on which the user interface (UI) as well as the private Ethereum blockchain are configured. The blockchain also implements a smart contract. For the purpose of developing the UI that provides assistance in conducting trading activities, an open-source Angular framework is used. Also explored in the study is the development of an Internet of Things (IoT) server using the latest ESP32-S3 microcontroller. The field instrumentation devices (FIDs) are connected to the microcontroller for the purpose of data acquisition and for subsequent transmission to an IoT server. The blockchain network maintains a record of all transactions in an immutable manner. Assuring security is achieved through a local configuration of the system, hosted on a private network with restricted access. For the purposes of information security and data integrity, additional security measures are also considered, such as a secret recovery phrase, firewalls, login credentials and private key. Among the servers and clients, there is an implementation of a Hypertext Transfer Protocol. The P2P energy trading approach involving renewable energy designed for remote communities is explained and illustrated in this paper.

We are now living in a time when the fourth industrial revolution is bringing new technologies with intensive digitalization of all levels of production. This paper presents a complex solution for the monitoring, diagnosis, and control of the production process, in our case, discrete event systems. The proposed solution—a mechatronic platform—further develops and extends our recent results where the overall concept was outlined and some partial tasks were studied. The present paper provides the complete structure of the proposed platform together with implementation details for all functionalities. The developed platform uses the latest technologies, such as OPC UA; industrial communication and visualization protocols and tools; and augmented reality, which enables comfortable interaction with real processes. The laboratory-scaled case study shows the qualities of the proposed solution.
