Angiolymphoid Hyperplasia With Eosinophilia of the Eyelid With Spontaneous Regression

Abstract: A 53-year-old Chinese man presented with a painless left upper eyelid lump of 2 weeks' duration. Histopathology was consistent with angiolymphoid hyperplasia with eosinophilia, and also revealed neutrophilic infiltrate secondary to ulceration. After incisional biopsy, the residual lesion, which was not treated, developed surface keratinization over the next 2 weeks and sloughed off, leaving intact epidermis and no scar. This case illustrates that observation awaiting spontaneous regression may be considered pr… Show more

“…9,12,13,14 Existem casos relatados de regressão espontânea. 15 Há muita confusão na literatura médica para a distinção entre Hale e doença de Kimura. A doença de Kimura foi inicialmente descrita por Kim e Szeto 16 em 1937 e tornou-se mais conhecida após a descrição sistemática realizada por Kimura em 1948.…”

“…Recurrence has been reported after incomplete excision [10]. However, most lesions regress spontaneously, and it is reasonable to observe the lesion for spontaneous regression after an incisional biopsy [10,23]. Good results have been reported with a stepwise multimodal treatment that combined low dose steroids and a cytotoxic agent as an initial treatment to reduce the lesion dimensions in preparation for surgical excision [24].…”
