Anger Experience and Expression among Adolescents: A Test of the STAXI-2 C/A

Abstract: Abstract. Adolescents regulate their anger expression more than other negative emotions. Unlike childhood aggression and externalizing behavior problems, the children and adolescents' experience and expression of anger has received relatively little empirical attention. The State-Trait Anger Expression Inventory-2 Child and Adolescent (STAXI-2 C/A; Brunner & Spielberger, 2009) was developed to measure how a child or adolescent experiences, expresses and controls anger. “…However, in this study, it has been found that there are more female students (3.3%) who scored high levels of anger as compared to male students (1.5%). This finding is contradictory from a cross-sectional survey by using the STAXI-2 C/A (a = .85) by Ng & Khor (2018), where the mean scores of Anger Expression In (AX-I) were higher among male students (M = 10.11, StdDev = 2.45) as compared to female students (M = 8.80, StdDev = 2.34), t(98) = 2.73, p< .05. However, the findings in our study may have been affected by the fact that there were three times more female respondents than male respondents.…”

“…16 However, few studies reported that males were more often affected by clinical anger than females. 17,18 Results also showed that the mean anger score increased in the higher study years, there was a significant difference in the CAS score of first and fourth-year students. This might be incited due to raised stress among students of higher classes because of difficult studies and the burden of other responsibilities that may have impacted the emotional health of students' leading to thrust in anger.…”
