Anfíbios da Estação Ecológica Serra Geral do Tocantins, região do Jalapão, Estados do Tocantins e Bahia

Abstract: Abstract:The Northern part of Cerrado is one of the biologically poorest known areas in the domain. Recent studies revealed richness values that are as high as those from other sites in the domain. The Estação Ecológica Serra Geral do Tocantins is located in a region known as Jalapão, in Northeastern Cerrado, and it is included in the largest set of protected areas in the domain. We describe amphibian richness and species composition in EESGT, and discuss it in a biogeographic context. We also describe breedin… Show more

“…Leptodactylus syphax, found in the metalophic savanna at Carajás National Forest (50°24'27" S, 06°20'46" W), had its known distribution increased 600 Km toward north from its nearest known locality of occurrence (Ponte Alta do Tocantins/TO) (Valdujo et al 2011;Neckel-Oliveira et al 2012). This species is typical from open areas, being recorded from Cerrado areas in the States of Mato Grosso, Minas Gerais, Piauí and Tocantins, associated to cave environments (Cardoso and Heyer 1995; Heyer et al 2004) which are common in the study area.…”

“…Strict protection conservation units, such as national parks and ecological stations aim to conserve biodiversity and promoting scientific research. Research should be encouraged by the policy makers and the scientific community, following the examples of Uetanabaro et al (2007) and Valdujo et al (2011).We hope that in the near future new articles related to these topics will strengthen the conservation of these regions and, consequently, the biodiversity present in those areas. …”

“…Frogs were found by listening for vocalizations (CICHI et al 2009, VALDUJO et al 2011) and visually searching bromeliads on 6, 12 March and 2 April 2013 on the island and on 10, 25 March and 3 April 2013 on the mainland. During that time the climate was similar in both locations, with no rain and water was only available in the bromeliads.…”
