Anaphylaxis in children and adolescents: The European Anaphylaxis Registry

Abstract: The European Anaphylaxis Registry confirmed food as the major elicitor of anaphylaxis in children, specifically hen's egg, cow's milk, and nuts. Reactions to insect venom were seen more in young adulthood. Intensive care unit admissions and grade IV/fatal reactions were rare. The registry will serve as a systematic foundation for a continuous description of this multiform condition.

“…9 This was not observed in and related conditions in the ICD-11 framework. 10,11 In an attempt to validate this new section of the ICD-11 version pertaining to allergic and hypersensitivity conditions to capture anaphylaxis deaths, the Brazilian group finally reported a decrease in reporting of anaphylaxis deaths due to improvements in anaphylaxis classification and coding.…”

“…Food-allergic reactions may result in life-threatening anaphylaxis [2, 3], and peanut allergy (PA) in particular is the most frequent cause of such reactions. At present, no effective treatment of peanut allergy is approved by the regulatory authorities.…”
