Analytical methods for multiresidue determination of sulfonamides and trimethoprim in meat and ground water samples by CE‐MS and CE‐MS/MS

Abstract: This paper presents two methods based on CZE-MS detection and CZE-MS/MS detection developed for the multiresidue determination of ten sulfonamides (sulfapyridine, sulfadoxin, sulfamethazine, sulfadimethoxine, sulfameter, sulfamerazine, sulfachlorpyridazine, sulfadiazine, sulfamethoxazole, and sulfamethizole) and a potentiator, trimethoprim (TMP), whose contents are regulated by the EU Council Regulation no. 2377/90 in animal edible tissues. Experimental designs were employed to optimize the electrospray condit… Show more

“…However, they are rather laborious and time consuming and large volumes of toxic extraction solvents are needed. The methods are based on extraction with a watermiscible solvent such as methanol, acetone or their mixtures with water [50][51][52][53][54][55][56]. The use of PLE using water as extractant has also been reported once [57].…”

“…The main compounds determine has been quinolones [54,58,68], sulfonamides [55,56,63] and tetracyclines [60]. There is only study that reports the simultaneous determination of several classes of antibacterials [57].…”

“…In many instances, LLE and SPE were used in combination; for example, after deproteinization/analyte extraction by means of a suitable organic solvent and solvent removal, the extracts were subsequently purified using suitable SPE procedures (Biswas et al, 2007;Soto-Chinchilla, García-Campaña, Gamiz-Gracia, 2007;Gamba et al, 2009). Procedures based on matrix solid-phase dispersion have been proposed to simplify the extraction step (Kishida, Furusawa, 2001;Bogialli et al, 2003;Posyniak, Zmudzki, Mitrowska, 2005).…”

“…The combination of off-line and online preconcentration procedures allowed the establishment of very low detection limits, being possible the monitoring of these residues by CZE with UV detection in these types of samples. The coupling of CE with MS detection for monitoring of residues in foods is an attractive alternative to LC-MS, which combines the advantages of both techniques [49] but this strategy has been scarcely used in the determination of antibiotics [50][51][52]. Concerning b-lactams, electrospray-MS detection has been applied for the detection of penicillin V and related substances by CE in a real fermentation broth [53].…”
