Analysis on water use strategies of natural poplar in Hunshandake Sandy Land, China

Abstract: The past decades have witnessed the increasingly severe desertification and high sandstorm frequency in Hunshandake desert, China, which evokes extensive concern regarding the ecological and environmental effects on natural plant fields. Herein, natural poplars in this area are studied in this work to analyze the water use efficiency (WUE), water absorption source (WAS), water consumption of poplar, and water use strategy (WUS). The results show that the intrinsically high WUE of poplar can be enhanced under w… Show more

“…Of course, also in the case of poplars in cities, their cultivation and maintenance is necessary. Considering diverse research findings to ensure optimal growth and sustainability of poplars in urban settings while minimizing risks, effective maintenance practices such as pruning, soil amendment, and irrigation are crucial [105][106][107][108][109][110][111][112]. The challenges such as insect pests and heavy metal accumulation in poplar require careful management and selection of clones, especially when monoculture plantations are planned to be introduced [42,43,113,114,115].…”
