“…The phases were identified with the help of metallographic tests (Figure 3 It consisted of columnar crystals oriented along the direction of the boron's diffusion in the steel. Such structure is characteristic for Fe 2 B borides and is described among others by Martini et al 22 and Cook et al 23 The length of the Fe 2 B columnar crystals (Figure 3(c)) was about 80 mm and diameter was about 20 mm. Between the layer of Fe 2 B and core of the specimen (steel C45), one could observe a highly developed surface boundary (Figure 3(c)).…”

“…According to previous studies, the life of uncoated carbide tool is less than 6 min under dry condition, and serious crater wear and adhesive wear occur when machining Ti6Al4V (TC4) [13]. There are several kinds of coating, such as TiAlN, TiCN, CrAlSiN, TiAlSiN, AlMgB 14 -TiB 2 and so on [6,[14][15][16][17]. TiAlN coating is one kind of excellent coating and possesses strong chemical stability and good resistance of oxidation wear at 900 • C [18].…”

“…Single-phase amorphous AlMgB 14 thin films produced by pulse-laser-deposition were reported with a high nanoindentation hardness of >30 GPa [8,9]. The AlMgB 14 -TiB 2 composite coating was later developed by physical vapor deposition (PVD), and demonstrated high wear resistance [10][11][12]. Correlated results from lubrication modeling and friction bench testing suggest that using the BAMC and DLC together would minimize the slip ratio at the rolling-sliding contact and reduce the sliding friction at both interfaces.…”
