Analysis of trace elements (Cu, Cd, and Zn) in the muscle, gill, and liver tissues of some fish species using anodic stripping voltammetry

Abstract: Heavy metal (Cu, Cd, Zn) concentration of the muscle, gill, and liver of Otolithes rubber, Pampus argenteus, Parastromateus niger, Scomberomorus commerson, and Onchorynchus mykiss are determined by anodic stripping voltammetry method. The results show that the concentration of Cu, Cd, and Zn varied between 0.44 and not detected, 0.585 and 0.001, and 0.450 and 0.005 μg/g, respectively. It is interesting that in O. mykiss, the mean value of copper concentration was more than other marine organisms of this study,… Show more

“…The metals accumulation varies greatly between both fish species and/or fish tissues. Generally, fish could translocate the large quantities of toxic heavy metals in the liver, gill, and also muscle tissues (Sobhanardakani, Tayebi, Farmany & Cheraghi, 2012). Contaminants in fish can pose a health risk to the fish themselves, to their predators, and to humans who consume them (Burger, & Gochfeld, 2005).…”

“…Many elements that are present in seafood are essential for human life at low concentrations (Sobhanardakani, Tayebi, Farmany & Cheraghi, 2012;Hosseini et al, 2013a;Sobhanardakani et al, 2017). However, other elements such as As, Cd, Cr, Hg, and Pb have no known essential function in biological systems and are toxic even at low concentrations (Isibor, 2017;Isibor, Imoobe & Ohiokhioya, 2017).…”

“…Fish samples were marked as shown in Scheme 1. Fish sample solutions were mineralized with a mixture of HClO 4 /HNO 3 according to the method described in Sobhanardakani et al (2012). After mineralization, the samples were filled up to volume (in 10-mL flasks) with 1:1 (v/v) water/0.1 M HCl mixture (sample solutions).…”

“…The solution was stirred and purged with nitrogen for 1 min after each spike. Finally, the concentrations of Cu(II), Pb(II) and Zn(II,) were calculated in the sample solutions by using the standard addition method (Sobhanardakani et al 2011a;Sobhanardakani et al 2011b). …”
