Introduction : the problems of sports selection and selection of prospective children in martial arts schools are quite relevant in the sports practice. It was revealed the use of various selection techniques in the practice of martial arts. There is no unified methodological system for selection in martial arts schools. The purpose of the study : to determine the dependence of the dynamics of sports results of elite athletes on the procedure of sports selection (for example, the Greco-Roman wrestling). Material and methods : elite Greco-Roman wrestlers (n = 114) took part in the research. Age of athletes: 25-45 years. Qualification: International masters of sport (n = 8), masters of sport (n = 49), candidates in masters of sport (n = 57). Athletes filled out a diagnostic card with data on the procedure of sports selection. It was indicated the dynamics of competitive results during the sports career. Indicators of performance and stability of athletes were calculated applying the mathematical statistics methods ( ). The reliability of the results was determined by Student's t-test. Results : Data analysis showed that a significant part of athletes did not pass the selection procedure (n = 23). Many athletes passed only a partial selection procedure (n = 39). Some athletes did not pass the selection procedure. These athletes are not inferior in terms of stability to athletes who passed the selection at the 1st and 2nd levels of competitive results. In subsequent competitions, these athletes demonstrated the reliable (P <0.05) decrease in indicators of stability in comparison with other athletes. It was revealed a significant (P <0.05) advantage in indicators of stability among athletes who passed a partial selection procedure at the 4th level of competitive results. Conclusions : It was found the dependence of stability indicators at high levels of competitive results on the selection procedure of athletes. The athletes who passed the selection procedure demonstrate higher stability at high levels of competitive results. It was revealed a formal attitude to the selection procedure in some coaches and specialists. The trainers do not pay due attention to the indicators of maintaining body balance and coordination abilities during the selection of candidates. It has been revealed that the motor tests applied in the selection procedure do not allow an objective assessment of the potential of athletes' competitive achievements.

The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of PPAR-a (rs4253778) on serum lipids in elite crosscountry skiers. This study included 34 cross-country skiers (23 males and 11 females who participated in the Turkish skiing national team camp). Genotyping for the PPAR-a gene rs4253778 G/C polymorphism was performed by PCR on Tercyk multicanal amplificator and restriction enzyme digestion. Statistical analysis was done by using the SPSS 22.0 package program. Genotypic frequency of the PPAR-a polymorphism was detected in cross-country skiers. PPAR-a GG, GC and CC genotypes were detected as 67.64%, 23.52% and 8.82%, respectively in 34 cross-country skiers while PPAR-a GG, GC and CC genotypes were detected as 47.05%, 16.64%, and 2.94%, respectively in elite males. PPAR-a GG, GC and CC genotypes were detected as 20.58 %, 5.88%, and 5.88%, respectively in females. PPAR-a G and C allele were detected as 49 and 19, respectively in 34 elite endurance athletes. In the present study, the GG genotypes were detected at higher frequencies in elite athletes (67.64% respectively) than GC and CC (23.52% and 8.82%, respectively). The difference between the PPAR-a G/C gene polymorphism of Turkish elite cross-country skiers and serum total cholesterol, HDLcholesterol, LDL-cholesterol and TG levels was not statistically significant. Although there was not any statistically significant difference between the PPAR-a G/C gene polymorphism and lipid profiles of Turkish elite cross-country skiers, it is foreseen that PPAR-α genes have an important effect on endurance performance in sports requiring endurance such as cross-country skiing.

Detection of a talented individual in sports and steering him/her to the relevant sports branch is very important for sports success. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of the Talent Identification Tests used by the coaches in wrestling on success. In this research, qualitative research technique was used. The participants of the study are 165 voluntary coaches working in youth setups, amateur clubs, professional clubs and the national team and having an average of eight years of coaching experience in 45 provinces of Turkey in seven different geographical regions. In this qualitative research, Semi-structured interview form developed by the researchers was used as a data collection tool. The data were obtained by the expert researchers in the related field and analysed via NVİVO. Of the 165 coaches in the present study, 106 (64.24%) were detected to perform a talent test for the athletes who just started to wrestle and 59 (35.76 %) were detected not to apply a talent test. 41 (38.68 %) of the coaches who applied talent tests to the wrestlers grounded their assessment on basic motoric characteristics of wrestlers, 36 (33.96%) physical structures and wrestling tendencies of the athletes, 19 (17.92%) on the competition observations and technical characteristics and 10 (9.43 %) on intelligence. In conclusion, it can be asserted that wrestling coaches' talent identification tests applied to athletes are effective in identification the athlete candidates who may be successful.
