Analysis of the Quantization Noise in Discrete Wavelet Transform Filters for Image Processing

Abstract: Abstract:In this paper, we analyze the noise quantization effects in coefficients of discrete wavelet transform (DWT) filter banks for image processing. We propose the implementation of the DWT method, making it possible to determine the effective bit-width of the filter banks coefficients at which the quantization noise does not significantly affect the image processing results according to the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR). The dependence between the PSNR of the DWT image quality on the wavelet and the b… Show more

“…Authors [33] quantized wavelet filters coefficients by 16 bits, but there is no rationale for this choice. The problem of analyzing the quantization noise effect in wavelet filters coefficients for 2D grayscale and color images DWT with 8 bits per color (BPC) was solved in [43].…”

“…In the field of electronics and information, signal processing is a hot research topic, and as a special signal, the study of image has attracted the attention of scholars all over the world [1][2][3]. In image processing, image restoration is one of the most important issues and this issue has received extensive attention in the past few decades [4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11].…”
