Analysis of the Factors Having an Influence on the LC Passive Harmonic Filter Work Efficiency

Abstract: This paper presents the electrical system factors having an influence on the work efficiency and performance of the LC passive harmonic filters (PHFs). Such filters are very often used in industries for the purpose of harmonics mitigation and reactive power compensation. Before their installation in the electrical system, many investigations should be performed in order to ensure their good design as well as work efficiency after connection. In this paper, the factors having an influence on the PHFs work effic… Show more

“…However, the share contribution of an external distortion source is not taken into account. The authors in [27] conduct a detailed study that evaluates the influence of grid and passive filter parameters on its performance. The influence of background distortions, which can lead to "strange behavior of the 5th harmonic amplitude in the current spectrum due to the additional 5th harmonic current flowing from the grid side," is also considered.…”

“…The PHFs are commonly used in practice because they are low cost, simple in structure, easy to maintain, very efficient in terms of individual harmonic reduction, and easily applicable in low voltage (LV), medium voltage (MV), and high voltage (HV) systems [28][29][30][31]. But in comparison to the shunt active power filter (SAPF) and HAPF, they are less efficient in terms of power quality improvement and their work efficiency in terms of harmonics mitigation depends (in certain cases) on the grid impedance [32,33].…”
