Analysis of the Efficiency of Port Container Terminals with the Use of the Data Envelopment Analysis Method of Relative Productivity Evaluation

Abstract: Abstract:The article presents a method for evaluating the efficiency of port container terminals. The research was conducted for nine European terminals which use different handling technologies. The terminals have been divided due to the level of automation of transport processes. In the efficiency research DEA (Data Envelopment Analysis) method is applied, that was previously used in studies of the relative productivity in the industry. This method allows you to multicriteria process analysis based on the pr… Show more

“…Therefore, it is important to select the correct analysis method and the right tools. However, in many cases, this depends on efficiently taking advantage of the available (conventional) resources without affecting the efficiency and quality of the process [5]. Management practices have considerable effects on the contribution and energy efficiency of crop production systems [6]; thus, energy demand in agriculture is classified according to the energy inputs of each production system [7,8].…”

“…In addition it is beneficial to use the presented methodology in assessing the development possibilities of complex technical systems (Chybowski, 2009a(Chybowski, , 2009b(Chybowski, , 1011, in the situation where it is necessary to use multi-aspect assessments cf. (Chybowski and Gawdzińska, 2016a, 2017cWiśnicki et al, 2017).…”

“…Cullinane, Song, Ji, and Wang (2004) applied DEA-CCR and DEA-BCC and the software DEA-Solver-PRO 3.0 to evaluate the efficiency of European ports. Wiśnicki, Chybowski, and Czarnecki (2017) applied the CCR DEA model to evaluate container terminals in Europe based on the technology available for handling cargo employing a software; Wu and Goh (2010) showed the efficiency in emerging markets applying the A&P 1 model besides DEA BCC and CCR models. Yuen, Zhang, and Cheung (2013) studied the efficiency of Chinese ports, taking into consideration foreign investments.…”
