Analysis of the braking system of the Korean High-Speed Train using real-time simulations

Abstract: The braking system of a high-speed train has a crucial role for the safety of human mass transportation. However, it is hard to acquire design parameters of the braking system in the development stage of a new high-speed train. In this paper, we build a Hardware-In-the-Loop (HIL) system for the braking system of the Korean High-Speed Train (KHST) that is supposed to reach 350 km/h, and analyze the characteristics of the braking system of KHST (composed of 7 cars) via real-time simulations. In the HIL system th… Show more

“…An approach combining signal processing and information enhancement is proposed in He et al (2013) for diagnosis of train bearings. In Kang (2007), a hardware-in-the-loop system is built to simulate the dynamics of a braking system of a HST. A modelling framework of magnetic braking systems is proposed in Galardi et al (2015) to test efficiency.…”

“…In [7], the software TrainDy was presented; it was developed to reliably evaluate the longitudinal force distribution along a train during different operations. In [8], Kang described a Hardware In the Loop system for the Magnetic Braking Systems of the Korean high-speed trains and analysed the characteristics of the braking systems via Real Time simulations. In [9], many interrelationships between various factors and types of braking techniques were analysed.…”

“…Twist locks are provided to hold the containers safely and rigidly on the platform of the vehicle or on the base of trailer. The twist lock locations on the platform, the load pattern inside the containers, load intensity, location of centre of gravity, the wheel base, self-weight of the platform, axle load distribution, approach and departure angles, ramp angle of the vehicle, trailer length, front & rear overhangs, vehicle width or height form the most important deign constraints of the chassis mounted platform [5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12].…”
