“…(1) produces gas!). In the reaction between hematite and aluminium according to reaction (2), no weight loss is caused. So, if this exothermic reaction takes place, it could only be seen from the DTA curve.…”

“…But this does not mean that the reduction degree is lower and not completed at the lower TGL Max , since the TGL is only caused by the carbothermic reduction reaction. For example in sample SHG 10-2 with 10 percent aluminium, this amount of aluminium is enough for removing about 40% of reducible oxygen of iron oxides through reaction (2) in which no weight loss occurs. Therefore, although the TGL Max is only 76.91 % in sample SHG 10-2, almost all the iron in the final product is in metallic form, as will also be shown and explained in more detail later, based on the results of XRD examinations.…”

“…The reduction of iron oxides, using different materials as reductant, has been the subject of many studies in the past decades. [1][2][3] Among the reductants, carbonaceous materials have been used by many researchers and carbothermic reduction of iron oxides has extensively been investigated. 1,[4][5][6][7] Many attempts have been conducted also to develop new iron making processes, based on direct reduction of iron oxides with carbon bearing materials.…”
