One of the actual problems of modern orthopedic dentistry is the development of optimal materials that, by their physical and chemical properties, would be most biocompatible with the mucous membrane of the oral cavity. The purpose of this work was to substantiate the use of base materials and acrylates for the manufacture of removable prostheses and to increase the effectiveness of orthopedic treatment of patients with complete or partial absence of teeth basing on the review of literary sources. A literature review was conducted using PubMed, Web of Science, SCOPUS, Google Scholar from 2019 to January 2024. There was no restriction on the date of publication or language. Searches were conducted according to MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) using the following search terms: "removable prosthetics", "removable prostheses", "dental base materials", "acrylates", "materials science", "adaptation". A total of 82 sources of literature were selected and processed during the primary analysis. After systematization of the selected information using general scientific methods, 70 most relevant sources remained. Exclusion criteria: publications that did not meet the purpose of this review, publication language other than English and Ukrainian. Used methods: bibliographic and analytical. The relation between the properties of the materials from which the prosthesis is made and the mucous membrane of the prosthetic bed was revealed, and the direct dependence of the quality of the prosthesis, the period of wearing, and the level of oral hygiene was determined. The base material must be easy to use so that the prosthesis can be manufactured and repaired without the use of a significant number of technological processes and equipment. The most common and popular material for manufacturing the bases of partial and complete removable prostheses are acrylates due to their low cost and the simplicity of the application technology, which does not require expensive equipment. The analysis of these literature sources showed that the percentage ratio of the composition of removable prostheses, which includes acrylic plastic, is more than 80%. However, except all existing advantages, they have a number of disadvantages. The main unsatisfactory quality of acrylic prostheses is their negative impact on the tissues of the prosthetic bed, which is reflected in the sensitivity of the mucous membrane and the phenomena of inflammation. Most often, this is manifested as a result of the reproduction of pathogenic microflora, which is concentrated on the surface of the base of the prosthesis. It is worth remembering that removable prostheses are inherently combined irritants that have a whole set of negative effects on the mucous membrane of the prosthetic bed, leading to its chronic inflammation. The above-described negative properties of acrylic plastic became the impetus for the creation of other types of materials. This problem is extremely urgent, and despite the serious resources spent on its elimination, so far no optimal way to increase not only the functionality and durability of the service, but also the safety of using removable orthopedic constructions has been found.

Introduction. The urgent task of orthopedic dentistry is the timely and optimal restoration of masticatory efficiency. Removable prosthetics remains one of the most popular methods of dental prosthetics. At the same time, removable prosthetics is associated with a number of clinical complications. An analysis of modern available domestic and foreign sources of literature on the epidemiology of prosthetic stomatitis, as well as the potential role of removable prostheses in the development of this disease, was carried out. Aim. To present the collected updated information from the current available systematic literature on the epidemiology of denture stomatitis, as well as the potential role of removable dentures in the development of the disease and make it accessible to orthopedic dentists. Materials and methods. A literature search was conducted using the electronic database PubMed to find studies related to the epidemiology and etiology of prosthetic stomatitis. The search period covered the period from January 2012 to December 2022, and 53 sources of literature were analysed. Results. A selection of 19 scientific articles was formed as a result of the conducted search and selection of scientific works that most closely corresponded to the set goal of the research. It was established that the prevalence of prosthetic stomatitis varies depending on a certain number of factors. According to the results of research by various authors, this disease affects from 20% to 80% of patients who use removable dentures. Variability of the prevalence of prosthetic stomatitis depends significantly on the age of the patient, gender, type of prosthesis, general health and oral hygiene of people using these structures. Analysis of data from an epidemiological study shows that the prevalence of prosthetic stomatitis among users of removable dentures varies from 20% to 80%. It is possible that the spread of stomatitis prevalence rates was influenced by conducting the study among various samples of the population. In general, the incidence of prosthetic stomatitis was higher among women and the elderly in the studies reviewed. Conclusions. The analysis of available sources of literature on the issue of epidemiology of prosthetic stomatitis allows to systematize the available modern developments, conduct their detailed analysis and make the obtained data available to practicing orthopedic dentists. The perspective of research consists in the detailed study of etiological factors contributing to the development of prosthetic stomatitis in patients with removable prostheses.
The urgent task of orthopedic dentistry is the timely and optimal restoration of chewing efficiency, with the creation of new and improvement of existing structural materials, optimization of the use of consumables and improvement of the clinical and technological stages of the manufacture of removable orthopedic structures. The purpose of our study was a comparative assessment of the physical and mechanical properties of cast plastic material for the manufacture of bases of combined removable orthopedic structures using an improved method. We have developed a new domestic material for the manufacture of the bases of removable dentures using foundry compression pressing technology. The following parameters of the study of physical and mechanical properties of plastics were taken into account: material Shore hardness, material consistency, relative deformation during compression, sorption, impact strength, bending stress, tensile strength, abrasion resistance, percentage of residual monomer. The comparative characterization of the physical and mechanical properties of cold polymerization acrylic plastics showed that domestic cold-cured base plastic for casting compression molding is not inferior to the foreign base in terms of its main indicators cold-hardening plastic differs from the analog cold-hardening base plastic by a harder and harder consistency, which makes it possible to more effectively use the material for combined bases of removable dentures. The obtained data indicate that, in general, the domestic material with its physical and mechanical properties meets the requirements for this class of dental materials.
