This study aims to exemplify how students who have some problems in learning English try to solve their problems. The design of this research is qualitative descriptive study. The subject of the study were students who had low achievement in English who got scores under 75. The data were collected by using observation, documentation and interview. The data source used in this study were 24 students of ninth class A special program at MTS Negeri 1 Surakarta. Observation were used to analyze the English learning process. The results of the study showed the following findings. The problems faced by the students were low motivation, limited idea or opinion, low ability to understand the materials. To overcome the challenges; students listened to the motivation given by teachers, learning from various resources that were easy to understand, and participated in collaborative learning applied by teachers. It indicates that students challenges can be solved by students themselves.

The purpose of this study is to improve students' learning outcomes in writing analytical exposition texts using the cooperative learning jigsaw learning model strategy. The research method used was classroom action research, which was carried out in two cycles. Data collection techniques used are observation, interview, test, and documentation. The observation was done by the real teacher and collaborator in observing the teacher’s (writer's) performance. The result showed that there were significant improvements in students’ learning outcomes. It can be seen in the mean score and percentage of the test from cycle 1 until cycle 2. The students’ percentage who passed the criteria for success in cycle 1 is 67.7%. And cycle 2 is 90%. It can be concluded that the cooperative learning jigsaw learning model can improve the student's learning outcomes in writing analytical exposition texts.

Bahasa Inggris merupakan bahasa asing yang diajarkan di satuan pendidikan di seluruh Indonesia. Oleh karena itu, dalam mempelajari bahasa Inggris, tentu saja siswa menghadapi berbagai macam tantangan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui tantangan yang dihadapi siswa SDN 14 Sungai Ambawang dalam mempelajari bahasa Inggris dan untuk mengidentifikasi faktor-faktor apa saja yang mempengaruhi tantangan yang dihadapi siswa dalam mempelajari bahasa Inggris. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah kualitatif, dengan desain penelitian studi kasus. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan observasi, kuesioner, dan wawancara. Teknik analisis data yang digunakan adalah model interaktif yang meliputi pengumpulan data, kondensasi data, display data, dan penarikan serta verifikasi kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menemukan bahwa ada beberapa tantangan dan faktor yang menyebabkan siswa sekolah dasar kesulitan belajar bahasa Inggris sebagai bahasa asing, yaitu kesulitan dalam memahami kata, kesulitan dalam menulis kata, kesulitan dalam menyimak kata dan kesulitan dalam pengucapan kata. Penyebabnya antara lain kurangnya rasa percaya diri, kurangnya dukungan dari lingkungan sekolah, kurangnya dukungan dari rumah, dan kurangnya fasilitas belajar. Penelitian selanjutnya dapat memperluas konteks yang lebih luas di bidang pengajaran bahasa Inggris sebagai mata pelajaran wajib.
