Ruang publik harus mengakomodasi peran esensinya sebagai ruang responsif, demokrartis dan bermakna. Siklus wabah penyakit yang berulang kali terjadi di dunia yang disebabakan oleh virus mulai tahun 1500-an hingga 2020-an, dapat menjadi pertimbangan dalam mendesain ruang terbuka publik masa depan. Pandemi Covid-19 yang terjadi tiga tahun silam menyebabkan banyak ruang publik yang ditutup karena tidak mampu mengakomodasi ruang yang aman dan nyaman bagi warga kota. Peran responsif ruang publik diuji, elemen penyusun ruang publik perlu disesuaikan untuk menciptakan ruang publik yang mampu mengakomodasi kebutuhan dan keinginan warga kota sebagai penggunanya. Penelitian ini berupaya merumuskan kriteria elemen penyusun ruang publik yang responsif di masa depan serta menilai sejauh mana kriteria tersebut diterapkan pada ruang publik di Bali. Metode kuantitaif digunakan, dengan menggunakan bantuan perangkat lunak JMP. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan elemen desain, fasilitas, dan pengelolaan serta pemeliharaan ruang publik di Bali perlu disesuaikan agar menjadi lebih responsif di masa depan. Apabila ditinjau dari kriteria ruang publik responsif, ruang publik indoor dan outdoor masing-masing memiliki keunggulan dan kelemahan.

This research is focused on exploring the relevance of undagi’s indigenous knowledge implemented on post-pandemic interior design as a recommendation for preserving traditional Balinese architecture in the modern era. As UNESCO promoted safeguarding the "Intangible Cultural Heritage" in 2003, all designers must strengthen the cultural side in still relevant designs for the modern era. In Bali, undagi’s (traditional architect) existence declined in the modern era. Undagi’s indigenous knowledge is the basis for the architectural development of traditional Balinese houses (umah) for designing tourism facilities as research objects. This research is a desk study with a critical analytical approach that qualitatively conducts a comparative study between indigenous knowledge and post-pandemic interior design recommendations with two stages of research—in the first stage, critically analyzing post-pandemic interior design recommendations by previous researchers with a systemic literature review. In the second stage, exploring undagi’s indigenous knowledge consists of explicit and tacit knowledge. The result of the two stages is the formulation of the relevance of undagi’s indigenous knowledge in post-pandemic interior design in Bali. The study results show that the undagi’s indigenous knowledge has relevance, which aligns with the recommendations for post-pandemic interior design criteria by previous researchers. This relevance is closely relevant, and several relevant values require development and interpretation to have interconnectivity between modern and traditional values. This process of interconnectivity must prioritize the principle of preserving traditional Balinese architecture in the modern era.

Pandemic Responsive Spaces for Local Economic Activities in the Old Town of Semarang

The COVID-19 pandemic has changed all aspects of life and order. It has made the Old Town of Semarang experience a decrease in the number of visitors. When the economy is starting and recovering, the pandemic sensitivity space is exercised through strict health protocol. This paper uses direct observation to examine the pandemic responsive space for local economic activities in the Old Town of Semarang. The following procedures were adopted for this study: 1) Defining the potential economic activity space in the Old Town of Semarang; 2) Recognising the presence of pandemic responsive space in location; 3) Analysing the responsive space in relation to pandemic context, and 4) Proposing space pattern that responsive to pandemic context. The study’s results are the Old Town of Semarang has three typologies of economic activity spaces, including cafes, restaurants, and street vendors. The economic activity in the form of cafes and restaurants has organised a responsive space to implement the established health protocols. In contrast, street vendors create unresponsive space for economic activity. This is because the street vendors have not been able to provide adequate supporting facilities for health protocols. Therefore, the local government and economic actors need to speed up the process for determining more pandemic responsive urban space that will allow economic activities to be carried out with proper health protocols
