Applying new technologies to reduce friction and wear in vehicles and equipment can minimize mechanical losses. This reduces power loss in internal combustion engines and reduces fuel consumption and emissions. Consumption of fuel energy can be reduced by the use of light metals, for example aluminum alloy, to produce vehicles and their aggregates and parts. In this case, the problem is poor tribological properties of those light weight metals, as well as the lower strength compared to the cast iron construction. For tribology research purposes, the contact surface of the aluminum cylinder of an experimental piston air compressor is reinforced with inserts of cast iron. The results of tribology research of the composite material are presented in the paper, explaining how parameters such as the sliding speed, contact time and contact area influence friction and wear of the material in relative tribological contacts, under constant normal force. The test procedures were performed on the ball-on-plate CSM ® nanotribometer, in linear reciprocating sliding conditions with no lubricant. Material composition of the samples was determined using the Energy-Dispersive Spectroscopy. All measurements were realized at the Faculty of Engineering, University of Kragujevac.

In the introduction of this article the authors deal with a general overview in the area of suspending the wheels of the road vehicles. It is important for creating an original design and this is the core of the operation. The implementation of the design to a real vehicle created a space for modifying this design. The necessity of a modification shows important especially after the MKP analysis of the original design. Currently the Industrial Property Office of the Slovak Republic grants the presented design solution the rights for protection as a utility model. For granting the protection it was not necessary to prove the safety parameters of the design. However, the possibilities of the real utilisation are fully dependent on the safety conditions. Therefore, the research process presented in this article is necessary for building a prototype of this system. As the area is relatively extensive, it was necessary to divide it into several parts. The design and its importance for the industry are presented in the first part. The second part deals with analytical calculations and numerical simulations of the quasi-static loading of the structure. Furthermore, the article considers the kinematic and dynamic area of the vehicle. The authors also deal with the sensitivity analysis of the change of the wheel camber. This simulation is realised by the programme Altair Motionview for the vertical motion of the front axle through the presented design.

The necessity of using renewable energy sources and limiting the current consumption of fossil fuels was emphasized, among others by changes in production technology. The approach of sustainable development in current energy systems is extremely important, especially in the case of plant-based fuels (biofuels). Poland is a country, where the share of renewable energy sources is still relatively small, and there are ongoing discussions on abandoning coal-based energy and the final shape of energy policy. In addition, the use of biomass from agricultural areas is not too large, although there is a potential for them in the sustainable biomass production plant and this would enable the development of the underdeveloped regions of the country. The most commonly used solid biofuel are briquettes made of vegetable waste, which, with the appropriate production technology, allow to obtain heat with a combustion value similar to that of hard coal. The article presents the preliminary results of laboratory tests of physical properties of fuel briquettes made of wood waste. The research was carried out on three types of wood shavings: pine, oak and hornbeam measuring their density depending on the type of wood and the size of the chip fraction in the pressing process. It has been shown that the size of the raw material fraction has an influence on the obtained density of fuel briquettes. The aim of the research was to determine the suitability of the studied waste wood materials for energy purposes for the production of briquettes. Attention was drawn to the fact that biomass for energy purposes is one of the steps to sustainable energy production and reduction of fossil fuel yield.
