Analysis of methods of regulation of silicon dioxide particles size obtained by the Stober method

Show more

“…Firstly, the amorphous silica spheres were prepared by modifying the Stöber method. 29 Briefly, 40 ml of ethanol, 5 ml of deionized water, and 1.75 ml of ammonium hydroxide were stirred at 50 °C; then, 1.5 ml of TEOS was added dropwise. Temperature and agitation were kept for 2 hours.…”

“…Nonetheless, this temperature dependency was also related to TEOS concentration, as it affects the formation of oligomers and stability of systems to aggregate or coagulate. A 4-fold decrease in particle size from 800 to 200 nm was observed with an increase in temperature from 10 to 55 °C, with varying TEOS concentrations of 10, 25, and 35 M, and smaller particle size silica was obtained using 10 M TEOS at a temperature of 55 °C …”
