Impacts of underground mining have been reduced by continuous environmental endeavors, scientific, and engineering research activities, whose main object is the behavior and control of the undermined rock mass and the subsequent surface subsidence. In the presented Velenje case of underground sublevel longwall mining where coal is being exploited both horizontal and vertical, backfilling processes and accompanying fracturing in the coal layer, and rock mass are causing uncontrolled subsidence of the surface above. 3D point clouds of the study were acquired in ten epochs and at excavation heights on the front were measured at the same epochs. By establishing a sectors layout in the observational area, smaller point clouds were obtained, to which planes were fitted and centroids of these planes then calculated. Centroid heights were analyzed with the FNSE model to estimate the time of consolidation and modified according to excavation parameters to determine total subsidence after a certain period. Proposed prognosis approaches for estimating consolidation of active subsidence and long term surface environmental protection measures have been proposed and presented. The C2C analysis of distances between acquired 3D point clouds was used for identification of surface subsidence, reclamation areas and sink holes, and for validation of feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed prognosis.

In recent years, with the development of urban expansion in Zhengzhou city, the underground resources, such as underground water and coal mining, have been exploited greatly, which have resulted in ground subsidence and several environmental issues. In order to study the spatial distribution and temporal changes of ground subsidence of Zhengzhou city, the Interferometric Synthetic Aperture Radar (InSAR) time series analysis technique combining persistent scatterers (PSs) and distributed scatterers (DSs) was proposed and applied. In particular, the orbit and topographic related atmospheric phase errors have been corrected by a phase ramp correction method. Furthermore, the deformation parameters of PSs and DSs are retrieved based on a layered strategy. The deformation and DEM error of PSs are first estimated using conventional PSI method. Then the deformation parameters of DSs are retrieved using an adaptive searching window based on the initial results of PSs. Experimental results show that ground deformation of the study area could be retrieved by the proposed method and the ground deformation is widespread and unevenly distributed with large differences. The deformation rate ranges from −55 to 10 mm/year, and the standard deviation of the results is about 8 mm/year. The observed InSAR results reveal that most of the subsidence areas are in the north and northeast of Zhengzhou city. Furthermore, it is found that the possible factors resulting in the ground subsidence include sediment consolidation, water exploitation, and urban expansion. The result could provide significant information to serve the land subsidence mitigation in Zhengzhou city.

ABSTRACT:The principle of exponent Knothe model was introduced in detail and the variation process of mining subsidence with time was analysed based on the formulas of subsidence, subsidence velocity and subsidence acceleration in the paper. Five scenes of radar images and six levelling measurements were collected to extract ground deformation characteristics in one coal mining area in this study. Then the unknown parameters of exponent Knothe model were estimated by combined levelling data with deformation information along the line of sight obtained by InSAR technique. By compared the fitting and prediction results obtained by InSAR and levelling with that obtained only by levelling, it was shown that the accuracy of fitting and prediction combined with InSAR and levelling was obviously better than the other that. Therefore, the InSAR measurements can significantly improve the fitting and prediction accuracy of exponent Knothe model.
