Surface Subsidence Prognosis above an Underground Longwall Excavation and Based on 3D Point Cloud Analysis

Abstract: Impacts of underground mining have been reduced by continuous environmental endeavors, scientific, and engineering research activities, whose main object is the behavior and control of the undermined rock mass and the subsequent surface subsidence. In the presented Velenje case of underground sublevel longwall mining where coal is being exploited both horizontal and vertical, backfilling processes and accompanying fracturing in the coal layer, and rock mass are causing uncontrolled subsidence of the surface ab… Show more

“…Strip Mining. Due to the small amount of surface movement and no water on the surface in deep well mining, Lidar and RTK technology are combined to collect field data of surface subsidence in mining areas, manual intervention processing is carried out on the acquired point cloud data, and the point cloud data and the generated DEM are used to analyze the surface subsidence deformation of the coal mine; besides, D-InSAR technology and deformation monitoring method of Network CORS based on Beidou can be carried out, and the "third class" elevation measurement accuracy can be achieved by improving the outdoor survey system and implementing a more precise data processing model [28][29][30][31][32].…”

“…To estimate active subsidence over the coal mine Velenje, [20] proposed a method where photogrammetric measurements obtained by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) were introduced through a 3D point cloud. The observation area was divided into rectangular sectors, where also centroids of their planes were calculated.…”

“…There are also studies that use dense point clouds derived from UAVs and algorithms that allow point cloud to point cloud comparison. Pal et al, used UAV photogrammetry to obtain multi-temporal point cloud data, and quantified the subsidence of the two periods through the nearest neighbor point cloud to cloud (C2C) comparison method [14].…”
