ANALYSIS OF "FIGURE" AND "GROUND" ON STREET SPACES BY THE PSYCHOLOGICAL AND THE INDICATION METHOD : Study of space structure on street spaces (Part 1)

Recently in Japan, streetscapes have been changing by repeated deregulation and redevelopment. Through the experiments using VR system, we research the desirable building forms and facades in Nihonbashi. Firstly we investigate the changes of impression in three streetscapes whose buildings forms and height are different. Secondly, we investigate the difference of impression of facades in the cases they are seen in streetscapes or seen individually. Thirdly analyzing the correlation of physical components and unique facades, we clarify the relation between attractiveness of streetscape and building forms and facades. Way of design to create lively, emotional and unique streetscape in Nihonbashi is suggested.

A Study on Relation of Indication Elements-Types and Consciousness-Types in City Spaces

Eng.The purpose of this study, the structure of the city space is clarifi ed by the Indication-method and the SD method. First, Two experiments were done in 99 points of 9 cities (Marunouchi, Ochanomizu, Ginza, Shibuya, Makuhari, Utase, Kannai, Kawasaki, Omiya). Then, Cluster analysis was done using the data obtained by experiments.1) City atmospheres were classifi ed into 5 Consciousness-types.2) Structures of elements were classifi ed into 5 Indication element-types. Finally, the relation between Consciousness-types and Indication elements-types was analyzed.As a result, we have found the 5 types. These types show the structure of the city spaces from Indication elements and consciousness.

Thirdly analyzing the correlation of physical components and unique facades, and we clarify the relation between attractiveness of streetscape and building forms and facades. Way of design to create emotional and favorable and arouses customer interest in Marunouchi is suggested.
