Analysis of Dynamic Characteristic for Solar Arrays in Series and Global Maximum Power Point Tracking Based on Optimal Initial Value Incremental Conductance Strategy under Partially Shaded Conditions

Abstract: Partial shading (PS) is an unavoidable condition which significantly reduces the efficiency and stability of a photovoltaic (PV) system. With PS, the system usually exhibits multiple-peak output power characteristics, but single-peak is also possible under special PS conditions. In fact it is shown that the partial shading condition (PSC) is the necessary but not sufficient condition for multiple-peak. Based on circuit analysis, this paper shows that the number of peak points can be determined by short-circuit… Show more

“…The five-parameter electrical circuit is the most widely used model in the analytical study of the photovoltaic cell. This model offers a good compromise in terms of complexity and performance [34], thus being the choice of several authors in this area of research [25,26,28,[35][36][37][38]. The model of the equivalent circuit with five parameters of the photovoltaic (PV) module can be observed in Figure 1.…”

“…A technique based on Radial Movement Optimization (RMO) for detecting the MPPT under partial shading conditions and then compared with the results of the particle swarm optimization (PSO) method is studied in [19]. Authors in [26] focus on the analysis of dynamic characteristic for solar arrays in series and MPPT based on optimal initial value incremental conductance strategy under partially shaded conditions. In [27] the authors optimize the MPPT with a model of a photovoltaic panel with two diodes in which the solution is implemented by Pattern Search Techniques.…”

“…All these factors are causes difference in modules I-V parameters, and this dissimilitude is the critical source of MML in PV array. Shading is a widespread issue for MML in PV array [42], and different novel algorithms and techniques have already been developed to reduce MML due to shading effects [43,44]. The manufacturing process of PV modules are developing competitively day by day to minimize the manufacturing variance of I-V parameters in same power rated modules, but still, now the available crystalline PV modules in the market contain manufacturing tolerances of ±3% to ±5% in their power rating.…”

“…The functioning of solar photovoltaic arrays obviously requires having high quality real-time measurements (monitoring) and a data storing system for several essential parameters; see also, for example, [2][3][4][5]. A wide variety of the control and monitoring systems for photovoltaic arrays was discussed in [6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14].…”
