Adjustable-speed drives with single-phase input require a power factor correction front-end, usually implemented by a boost converter, to reduce the current distortion from the uncontrolled rectifier; this stage is then followed by a three-phase inverter. Bulky electrolytic capacitors are used to limit the direct current voltage ripple resulting from the rectification of the single-phase input. This leads to increased system size and shorter lifetime. In this work, the usual boost front-end is exploited to actively control the DC link voltage ripple while limiting the input current distortion and, hence, the power factor, even if not reaching unity. However, Power Factor is greatly improved with respect to the uncontrolled rectifier alone. This approach permits one to reduce the required capacitance, allowing the substitution of the electrolytic capacitor with a long-life low-equivalent-series-resistance film one. A control targeting capacitor voltage level, ripple, and boost inductor peak current is presented, together with practical design models. The synergic control of the boost front-end and of the machine drive is presented as well. The resulting converter is tested with resistive load and permanent-magnet synchronous machine drive, highlighting the advantages and limits of the proposed solution.

To prevent the passengers from electric shock, the DC-bus capacitor voltage of the highvoltage permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM)-based drives in electric vehicles (EVs) is required to decline to safe voltage as quickly as possible when emergency occurs. Considering that the discharge time for small safe current limit powertrain systems will be longer than required, this paper proposed a maximum power discharge strategy to accelerate the dissipating process and meanwhile avoid the voltage surge. Firstly, the PMSM discharge model as a generator is established on the basis of analyzing the discharge course. Secondly, the feasible reference current trajectory is presented by drawing the trajectories of the voltage, current, and power constraints. Then the maximum power discharge strategy is achieved by following the extreme points in the reference trajectory. Finally, simulation and experiment are conducted on a three-phase SPMSM powertrain system to validate the proposed algorithm can effectively shorten the discharge process.INDEX TERMS Permanent magnet synchronous machine (PMSM), winding-based discharge, small safe current, maximum power.

The emerging trend in sustainable industrial processes focuses on energy‐efficient drives to enhance performance in both intermediate and continuous operating conditions. For decades, researchers have focused on permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSM) for industrial applications in order to retain consistency in performance and efficiency under wide speed ranges. Common bus regenerative control is an energy‐efficient method used in industrial systems to manage power flow between multiple devices on a shared DC bus. It captures and reuses excess energy generated during braking/deceleration, reducing waste and improving overall system efficiency. The experimental behavior of the drive scheme has been observed as per the standards of the laboratory. In this article, regenerative control of a PMSM drive is using the voltage vector control (VVC+) technique and the SCADA based condition monitoring for the PMSM drive system is integrated to supervise the parameters including current, voltage, power, speed, torque, and temperature under dynamic operating conditions. As a primary step of implementing the drive condition monitoring is carried out through Danfoss's motion control tool software. Further, the SCADA control system is interfaced to FC302 PMSM drive through RS485 Modbus communication to extract the necessary electrical attributes and monitor the same.
