Analysis of changes to lncRNAs and their target mRNAs in murine jejunum after radiation treatment

Abstract: LncRNAs have been reported to play an important role in various diseases. However, their role in the radiation‐induced intestinal injury is unknown. The goal of the present study was to analyse the potential mechanistic role of lncRNAs in the radiation‐induced intestinal injury. Mice were divided into two groups: Control (non‐irradiated) and irradiated. Irradiated mice were administered 14 Gy of abdominal irradiation (ABI) and were assessed 3.5 days after irradiation. Changes to the jejuna of ABI mice were ana… Show more

“…Initially, lncRNAs were viewed as "junk genes" that lack coding capacity [9]; however, they were discovered to be important in many human diseases such as diabetes, cancer, neurodegenerative diseases, cardiovascular diseases, and autoimmune diseases, such as T1DM [10,11]. LncRNAs can interact with DNA, proteins, mRNAs, miRNAs, siRNAs, and other antisense RNAs via chromatin modification [8,12], thereby acting as a bait or promoter of transcription factors [4], DNA methylation, histone modification, and genomic imprinting [13] and promoting or inhibiting translation; these interactions are involved in gene expression and regulation [14].…”

“…CD patients reportedly have eight DElncRNAs (four up- and four downregulated) in pathological mucosa from the ileal end [ 31 ]. Radiation-induced intestinal damage reveals that 91 lncRNAs are significantly upregulated and 57 lncRNAs are downregulated in murine jejunum [ 32 ]. Infection with porcine endemic diarrhea virus induces lncRNA differential expression in piglet ileum; lncRNA_9606 is significantly upregulated 300-fold [ 33 ].…”

“…Gene Ontology annotations and GO terms were merit prognosis for function and trend of these genes. Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes signal pathway is another effective tool that can give power information for function of genes and was largely used for bioinformatic analysis . Thus, we determined the lncRNA‐dependent gene functions and the association of correlated signalling pathways in pathogenesis of air pollution‐induced congenital malformation using these two methods.…”

Our results demonstrated the possible involvements of neurological system process, sensory perception of smell and G-protein signalling pathway.…”
