Analysis and Testing of a Coaxial Magnetic Gearbox With Flux Concentration Halbach Rotors

Abstract: Halbach array magnetic gearboxes have been discussed as being able to create high torque density. However, Halbach arrays are difficult to mechanically assembly and often the effective air-gap must be made larger in order to provide space for a retaining sleeve. This paper investigates the benefits of using an additional ferromagnetic retaining pole within the Halbach array structure. It is shown that utilizing this flux concentration ferromagnetic pole improves the torque density and can also help retain the … Show more

“…In Halbach magnet magnetization, the magnetic field similar to sinusoidal distribution is the most ideal [15][16][17], but it is difficult to achieve in engineering manufacturing. In order to obtain the sinusoidal magnetic field, the permanent magnet is usually segmented, and then each segment of the permanent magnet is changed to the appropriate magnetization direction.…”

“…The Halbach array divides the space into two sides, i.e. magnetic gathering and weak magnetic gathering (Som et al , 2017; Xie et al , 2017). The former’s magnetic field distribution tends to be sinusoidal, increasing the magnitude of the magnetic flux density and increasing the electromagnetic torque (Wei and Nakamura, 2021; Song et al , 2020; Xie et al , 2019).…”

“…The conventional FMPMG topology is being considered for use in applications such as electric vehicles [3] and wind generators [4]. Following sustained research in the past few decades, various FMPMG topologies, such as axial and flux focusing configurations [5], Halbach magnet arrays [6], dual‐flux‐modulator configurations [7], and FMPMG using a stationary permanent magnet (PM) ring [8], were derived. In addition, a total of 15 FMPMG topologies with simple coaxial radial flux structures were investigated in [9].…”
