Analysis and Revision of Torque Formula for Hydro-viscous Clutch

Abstract: Hydro-viscous clutch is a speed-regulating device for heavy fans and water pumps. It has important engineering significance in the fields of soft-start for rotating machinery. More and more attention has been paid to its torque and control characteristics. This paper is focused on the torque formula for hydro-viscous clutch (HVC), assuming that multi-friction plates distribute ununiformly with different oil film thickness. A mathematical model of friction plates was constructed, then the distribution formula o… Show more

“…Therefore, the HSCS is a multi-parameter, strong coupling, and strong nonlinear hydraulic transmission system. The main interference factors are the fluctuation of engine rotational speed and the change in lubricating oil temperature [3][4][5][6], which lead to the problems of narrow speed control range, large fluctuation of fan rotational speed, and large impact on the torque of transmission shaft in the speed control process.…”

“…Sun et al [12] established the three-dimensional transient heat conduction equation with boundary value problem and investigated the thermal behavior of double arc groove friction disks. Based on the mathematical model of friction disks, Liao et al [13] proposed a new expression by using the correction factor, and the calculation results show that the new expression is more accurate than the original one. Sun et al [12] summarized the influence of oil film thickness between friction disks, rotation speed of active and passive friction discs and inlet pressure of lubricating oil on transmission efficiency.…”

“…But in the actual application process, the actual impact of factors on system performance is often judged by engineering experience. From the control point of view, the law and formation mechanism of HSCS are not clear [2][3][4][5] , and there is no guiding signi cance for the design of control method of HSCS. Therefore, the hydro-viscous clutch often appears overheating, warping deformation and serious damage problems when working [6][7][8][9] .…”
