Analysis and design of a triple band metamaterial simplified CRLH cells loaded monopole antenna

Abstract: The design and analysis of meta-material inspired loaded monopole antenna for multiband operation are reported. The proposed antenna consists of multi resonators inspired from half mode composite right/left handed cells, which has a simple structure, compact size, and provides multiband functionalities. As a proof of concept, a triple band antenna covering all possible WiMAX operating bands, has been designed, fabricated, and characterized. The hosting monopole patch itself generates resonance for 3.3–3.8 GHz … Show more

“…(1) Compact zeroth order antenna has been suggested in [7], however, it has been suggested in [31] that simpler and ultra compact metamaterial antenna is possible by using open- we can observe that the first band at 2.4 GHz is the same with or without using loading cell. Also, it is observed that the antenna has better than dB bandwidth from 2 GHz -2.8 GHz in the first 2.4 GHz band and 5.74 GHz -5.95 GHz in the second band.…”

“…The transition frequency between the two bands is associated with zero propagation constant . It has been shown in [33], [34] that the resonance frequency of the zeroth order antenna is either the shunt branch resonance frequency f sh or the series branch resonance frequency f se which are identical. However, it has been explained that for the open circuit resonance mode of the zeroth order mode CRLH antenna, the energy storage is within the shunt branch.…”

“…Monopole antenna can be adapted for multi-band functionalities by incorporating it with other resonators. Examples for these designs are: (1) folding of monopole [10,11], which is limited in design capabilities; (2) using different defecting ground radiating resonators [12,13], yet it may increase the antenna size; (3) integrating slots with the monopole for achieving extra resonances [14,15]; nevertheless, it is complex in design and leads to a complex structure when using bottom layer [16]; and (4) integrating inspired metamaterial resonators with monopole [17][18][19][20].…”
