Analysis and control of a reduced switch hybrid active power filter

Abstract: A hybrid B4 active power filter (APF) with reduced switches is proposed in this study, which is composed of a inductance-capacitance (LC) passive filter and a four-switch three-phase inverter (B4 inverter) in series connection. The LC filter is used to supply reactive power, and the active filter is responsible for mitigating the harmonics. Compared with the previous proposed four-switch hybrid APF, it can overcome the drawback of large dc voltage components appearing in the ac capacitors. Basic principles and… Show more

“…In addition, their switching and conduction losses are added to the total system losses, and if an appropriate switching algorithm is not selected, it may greatly reduce the overall efficiency. Various APFs have been introduced so far, with different applications depending on how they are controlled and connected to the network [24][25][26][27][28][29]. A new type of compensator that uses both APFs and PPFs to improve performance is called hybrid APF, which has received much more attention than the conventional ones [30].…”

“…Some researchers are interested in virtual hybrid APFs, that is an APF between an AC and DC micro-grid [107]. To research finding novel control strategies to improve the performance of hybrid filters has always been popular for researchers [108][109][110][111][112][113].…”

“…Comparing (15) with the traditional internal model given by (9), it can be found that the delay time of 6k + 1 internal model is reduced to T 0 /6, which means a much faster dynamic response. What is more, it should be noted that the 6k + 1 internal model is expressed using the complex-vector notation, as it contains the complex coefficient e j π 3 .…”

“…Among the various viable hybrid active filter topologies, parallel hybrid active filters present a cost-effective solution for harmonic filtering and reactive power compensation of high power nonlinear industrial loads, due to the small rating of the active filter (2%-3%) of the load KVA rating [6]. Thus, they have attracted increasing attention [7][8][9][10][11].…”
