Show more

“…As regards the category/ feature relation issue, we have been using fine-grain studies of normal individuals and found support for both differential weight and differential intercorrelation of sensorial and nonsensorial features in living and nonliving things (Ventura, Morais, Brito-Mendes, & Kolinsky, 2002). Yet, as we explain here, in our view this is not incompatible with the inference we make from the present case study, that there is a separate semantic system for living things or even, as indicated by the observation of selective deficits for say animals (e.g., ---------------------------------------- Data from Dubois (1982Dubois ( , 1983.…”

“…20 As in the former tests, the norms for familiarity were taken from Snodgrass and Vanderwart (1980), those for oral word frequency from Vikis-Freibergs (1974), those for typicality from Dubois (1982Dubois ( , 1983 and those for age of acquisition from Morrison et al (1997) and Gilhooly and Logie (1980). matched subset, ER's category effect was significant for both nonsensorial and sensorial probe questions, c 2 (1) =54.01 and 25.58, respectively, p < .001 in both cases.…”

“…Until recently (Léger, Boumlak, & Tijus, 2008;Marchal & Nicolas, 2003), only norms dealing with a small set of categories (Cordier, 1980;Dubois, 1983), publications of limited circulation, and/or unpublished works were the reference for French semantic categorization norms (Charles & Tardieu, 1977;Denis, 1978;Tourrette, 1979). Table 1 sums up the number of categories and participants tested in several of these semantic categori- To our knowledge, none have been tested in previous norms (in either English or French), which thereby increases the diversity of available categories.…”
