Reproductive performance of Belgian Blue and Wagyu cross cows. Biodiversitas 24: 5352-5358. Double-Muscle (DM) cattle have been used in cattle breeding programs to increase body weight. This research aims to determine the reproductive performance of using DM cattle. Currently, cattle are produced from a cross between two breeds, namely Belgian Blue (BB) cross (50% BB, 50% BX) and Wagyu cross (50% Wagyu, 50% BX). Natural mating was carried out on nine BB cross cows mated with Wagyu cross bulls and nine Wagyu cross cows bred with BB cross cows. After calving, the cows were raised together with their calves for six months prior to weaning. The collected data were analyzed using One-Way analysis of variance. Calving Interval (CI), Cow Reproductivity Index (CRI), calf weaning weight, and Cow Productivity Index (CPI) of BB and Wagyu cross cows were 426.00±24.92 and 411.55±37.52 days, 0.86±0.05 and 0.89±0.08 head/year, 175.53±24.50 and 121.19±19.80 kg, and 148.46±24.61 and 102.41±20.84 kg/year, respectively. There was no significant difference in the CI and CRI between crosses. However, the weaning weight of BB cross calves was higher (p<0.05) than that of Wagyu cross calves, whereas the CPI of BB cross cows was higher (p<0.01) than that of Wagyu cross cows. It was concluded that the best reproductive performance was the BB cross, which had DM blood.

Bali cattle (Bos javanicus) is one of the native cattle of Indonesia, which have excellent performance though reared in hot tropic condition with low quality of feed. As generally known, livestock performance is influenced by genetic and non-genetic such as environmental factors. Therefore, this study aims to determine the non-genetic factors on growth traits of Bali cattle. The material used in this study was Bali cattle that participated in the progeny test program, consisting of 20 bulls, 122 cows and 176 calves born three years in row. The data included sex, birth season, mating system, parity, and data on growth traits which included: birth weight (BW), weaning weight at 205 days (WW205), yearling weight at 365 days (YW365) and mature weight at 730 days (MW730). Data were then analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The result shows that BW, YW365 and MW730 were influenced by birth season and sex (p<0.05), and WW205 was influenced by sex and parity (p<0.05). Based on the result, we concluded that the performance of the Bali cattle population in this study was influenced by non-genetic factors that are birth season, sex and parity affect the growth traits of Bali cattle.

Kesejahteraan masyarakat peternak Domba Garut ditentukan oleh peningkatan kualitas dan kuantitas obyek ternaknya. Upaya peningkatan ini dilakukan dengan kegiatan breeding, salah satu kegiatan breeding adalah seleksi ternak berbasiskan breeding value. Breeding value adalah nilai genetik ternak kedudukannya relatif di dalam populasi, sehinga ternak terpilih adalah yang memiliki breeding value di atas rata-rata populasi. Namun demikian pengetahuan peternak tentang seleksi belum sepenuhnya menjadi bagian dalam budidaya, sehingga pemberdayaan masyarakat peternak menjadi penting. Metode pemberdayaan ini menggunakan key informant yaitu mengintroduksi kognitif aparatur peternak untuk disebarluaskan kepada wilayah binaannya. Kegiatan ini dilaksanakan sejak bulan Juli sampai Nopember 2020 di UPTD Margawati Kabupaten Garut. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan pengetahuan key informant dalam mutu genetik domba Garut untuk disebarluaskan kepada peternak binaan di wilayah masing-masing. Diharapkan terdapat kesinambungan program pengabdian di perdesaan terkait peningkatan kapasitas ilmu peternak sebagi upaya pembinaan wilayah.
