“…In this sense, it is interesting to examine how internal audit departments have begun to be implemented in Spanish companies, and how this function has possibly contributed to the reduction of audit costs. In relation to the second phenomena being studied, that is, the possible effect the meetings between the audit committee and internal audit department have on audit fees, this is of interest given that the responsibility for improving the status of the internal audit function within company lies in the audit committee, an aspect that will increase the independence and objectivity of this function (Schneider, 2010).
